PREGINET or the Philippine Research, Education, and Government Information Network is a nationwide broadband Research and Education (R&E) network. It has connectivity to international R&E networks through the Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN). PREGINET enhances the exchange of R&E experience. This collaborative project among institutions aims to develop our country's capability in the cutting-edge of ICT, in areas of network technologies, telemedicine, agriculture, and disaster mitigation. To date, collaborating institutions in the region include CVISNet and its member colleges and universities, and the University of the Philippines-Open University..

CVISNet has participated in PREGINET's events, workshops and meetings through videoconferencing. Since school year 2002, CVISNet has been facilitating videoconferencing classes of the University of the Philippines Open University (UP-OU)-Cebu conducted over PREGINET. CVISNet also collaborates with PREGINET and other institutions in conducting research activities and deployment of Internet Protocol version 6 (Ipv6). As a partner, CVISNet has already established the IP-6 connectivity and capability. Through CVISNet, the PREGINET Team successfully installed the wireless link from CVISNet to the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus in 2004.

CVISNet: Implementer of SME.Net (www.made-in-cebu.com)

In 2005, CVISNet was tapped by the PEARL2 (Private Enterprise Accelerating Resource Linkages-Phase 2) of the Canadian International Development Agency for the SME.Net project. Project SME.Net aims to enable enterprises to access the global market by developing an internet-based infrastructure.

Twenty small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the garment, tourism and dried fruit sectors in Cebu Province were chosen to benefit from the SME.Net Project. Tangible benefits of the project include market matching of local SMEs with potential buyers and raw material suppliers, access to different government services and continuous improvement of technical skills of SME workers.

SME.Net partner organizations are DOST7, DTI-Cebu, PhilExport Foundation and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
